Just discovered this page when looking for a treacle tart recipe and wanted to confirm what your mum said, when we here in the UK say treacle, we mean the black treacle. Esther, I was just enlightened also that our yummy, irresistible Irish Potatoes are only a LOCAL Philly Tradition!!!!! I thought EVERYBODY ate them!! Nooooooo, most ppl don’t even know what they are!! Surprise to me! My kid went off to college in Calif and just txt me to ship him some, ’cause it’s a Philly area thing!!! LOL Who knew! But where the heck am I gonna get them now?? Let alone enough of them for him to have and still have some to share?? LOL
